Judge: Man's confession to police in death of 3 sons inadmissible, police violated rights had some of his rights violated by police in the aftermath of his arrest.
32-year-old Chad Doerman was arrested in June of 2023 after he allegedly shot and killed his three sonsJust last month, attorneys for Doerman argued to get some of the evidence suppressed, including a confession he made. The defense claimed that the police didn't properly "Mirandize" him, didn't provide him an attorney when he asked for one, and coerced and intimidated him into making statements.
Now, Judge Richard P. Ferenc has officially ruled that the Clermont County Sheriff's Office violated his rights two times. The first was when the department failed to advise him of his Miranda rights before interrogating him. The second time was when detectives questioned him after he had asked for his attorney.
Due to these errors, the confession made by Doerman is now inadmissible in court. Even with this ruling, prosecutors may still use other interviews with Doerman.
