PARENTS in Wales could be banned from smacking their children for misbehaving if a tweak to the law is passed.
Spokeswoman Lowri Turner said: "It is disappointing that the Welsh Government has decided to press on with this unnecessary piece of legislation that will do nothing to protect children, but will criminalise loving parents. The legal defence has been used in law since 1860 and is currently available in England and Wales for parents or adults acting in loco parentis against charges of common assault.
Viv Laing, head of policy at NSPCC Cymru, said: "It's wrong that children in Wales have less protection from assault and that a legal defence which does not exist when an adult is hit can be used to justify striking a child.

And this is why we are now a nanny state full of knife crime and kids killing one another... bring back smacking, bring back the cane, bring back stop and search. Introduce a Singapore style punishment system where crime is almost non existent
It was voted here this year. The best way to end up with yellow vest crowds up to all sorts causing havoc throughout the country for weeks on end. No limits they do what they want and they do it with pride.
And this is why we have kids going around stabbing people.
Additionally, because social services became overwhelmed, often kids receiving genuine serious abuse were not seen fast enough. There was a rise in child deaths from abuse because of the overload.
It’s sad that people feel a well timed smack damages a child. Never did the majority of us baby boomers any harm. Give it twenty years and we’ll be surrounded by masses of entitled narcissistic brats
In fact my daughter ran away from home on this pretext and we were unable to get her returned - then they claimed child support. Their daughter wound up being a bludger and waste of space. Everything handed to her on a plate. No control whatsoever.
Similar happened in NZ a decade and more ago. It results in child protection services being overwhelmed for even the minor cases.
