Moving the case against Monahan from criminal to civil, the Gillis family is seeking a judgment amount of no less than 5 million dollars from the Monahan's.Monahan was sentenced to 25 years to life on March 1st for murder in the second degree of Kaylin Gillis. Legal analyst Ryan McCall of Tully Rinckey says in a criminal case the burden of proof is higher – so the fact that a jury has already found Monahan guilty beyond a reasonable doubt will aid the family’s case.
