Testimony will continue Thursday in Jason Meade's murder trial. The jury in the Jason Meade trial will not return until Tuesday morning after a series of closed-door meetings in court on Thursday.Several closed-door meetings happened Thursday where WSYX was told "logistics" were being discussed.
Among the subpoenas were for Tamela Payne, Casey Goodson Jr.'s mother, and the family's attorney, Sean Walton. A third person — Christopher Corne — whose address belongs to Franklin Heating and Cooling in Groveport, was subpoenaed for a deposition, GPS records, and employment file. "You were suspicious because there was a heating and cooling truck in front of your home, isn’t that correct?” the neighbor Sheila Staniford was asked.Mark Weaver, an experienced attorney, has served as a special prosecutor in multiple Ohio counties. He gave insight into the sudden subpoenas.
"In criminal trials, there is a notion of unfair surprise. ‘we could not have known this was going to come up. That’s not fair. We should be allowed to call another witness.” Weaver added. "The judge has to make a good decision when that comes up. The judge is the ultimate arbiter of how to run a fair trial. The judge looks like he is giving both sides time to prepare for a new witness.
