Senator Hollie Hughes has slammed the Albanese government’s plans to introduce “prominence legislation” that will force new smart TVs to pre-load the ABC and SBS in search results ahead of subscription-based broadcasters.

Senator Hollies Hughes has accused the Albanese government of trying to “control the flow of information” by proposing legislation that will force new smart TVs to promote free-to-air broadcasters like the ABC.

Senator Hollie Hughes slammed the new bill during a panel with Sky News Australia host Andrew Bolt and former Labor Senator Stephen Conroy. “Next we’ll start seeing they’ll want a ministry of truth, they’ve read some of Orwell’s books and taken them too literally,” Senator Hughes said. The Senator alleged that left-leaning political parties like Labor and the Greens support the ABC because the national broadcaster in turn backs their more left-wing political agenda.
