Young, a Republican, resigned from his position effective Oct. 2.

Published: Oct. 25, 2023 at 10:31 AM EDTBARBERTON, Ohio - The bench trial for former State Rep. Robert Young began Tuesday morning in Barberton Municipal Court.

Testimony wrapped up Tuesday afternoon and Judge Todd McKenney is expected to announce his verdict on Thursday, Oct. 26. Young is facing two counts of domestic violence and one count of assault after allegedly attacking family members on July 7. According to the Summit County prosecutor, the alleged assaults happened at Young’s home as well as a relative’s home.A status hearing on those charges is scheduled for Oct. 26.He was in his second term in the Ohio house and was chair of the Pensions Committee.
