A man accused of the murder of Ashley Dale says her killer "used him" in the aftermath of the shooting and left him feeling "blindsided and baffled".
Peers and Witham were seen on CCTV leaving a flat on Pilch Lane in Huyton together hours before the latter shot Ashley dead, and then returned together in the early hours. He claims that he had spent the intervening period watching an Anthony Joshua v Oleksandr Usyk fight with his dad at his mum's house.
"I can't speak for what’s gone on in them two hours apart. I was definitely unaware of the situation, I’ve been blindsided to this." "It’s the maddest thing to even sit there and think about. We was all in that flat, and there was definitely no plan for anything like this, never mind it actually happening."I’m thinking 'where’s all this come from?'. It’s still baffling now."
Peers: "Yeah I did, but it wasn’t until I actually seen it. As quick as it got put up it was as quick as it come down, the car was never really talked about in the news." "This time, they were not to be diverted from their intention to kill. One of the men approached the front door of 40 Leinster Road and he kicked it in. Ashley plainly became aware of what was happening. She screamed and fled towards the back door of the house, but the man entered the house and he pursued her.
