Watch on - Former President Donald Trump could gain a strategic edge in a criminal case brought against him when two of his former lawyers and co-defendants go on trial next week on charges they conspired to overturn the results of the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

Prosecutors have said they intend to present the same case for each defendant, giving Trump's lawyers a preview of the state's playbook and a chance to fine-tune his defense for when he ultimately faces trial. The Georgia case is one of four federal or state criminal prosecutions Trump faces as he campaigns to retake the White House in 2024. He is also currently on trial in a civil case in New York that could dismantle pillars of his business empire.

"His lawyers will be able to observe the demeanor of witnesses, which definitely gives them an advantage in preparing their cross-examination and building their defense," said former federal prosecutor Chris Mattei.
