and the Inspection Investigation and Enforcement Department have begun investigations into the cause of a fire that occurred yesterday at a section of the Supreme Court. The apex court’s Public Relations Officer , Mr. Festus Akande, told reporters that an electrical fault caused the fire, which reportedly emanated from one of the chambers of the Justices and was put out with extinguishers.
Akande described as “fake news” a story making the rounds on social media platforms that there were casualties in the incident. It was gathered that some workers who reported early for work detected the fire and raised the alarm. Reacting to the incident in a statement yesterday in Abuja, the FCT Police Command’s spokesperson Josephine Adeh, a Superintendent of Police , said: “On September 25, 2023 around 7 a.m, there was a fire at the Supreme Court.
“The situation is under control. The fire service and the police are on the ground. Only two chambers of two Justices were affected. At the moment, properties destroyed are yet to be ascertained; the cause of fire is still being investigated by appropriate authorities. Further information will be communicated later.”
