A section of the Supreme Court was on fire on Monday morning, though no casualty was recorded.Command has initiated an inquiry into the cause of the fire outbreak.
The public relations officer for the court, Festus Akande, told reporters that the cause of the fire was electrical from one of the Chambers of the Justices and was put out with the use of fire extinguishers. Akande added that the stories making the rounds on social media that there are casualties are “fake news.”It was gathered that the cleaners on duty and some of the workers who resumed early for work early detected the fire and raised the alarm.Three offices, including that of Justice Mohammed Saulawa, were touched by the fire.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh while reacting to the development through a statement issued on Monday, September 25, said: “On the 25/09/2023 at about 7 am there was a fire incident at Supreme Court. “Situation under control, fire service and police all on the ground, only two chambers of two judges were affected, at the moment properties destroyed yet to be ascertained, Cause of fire is still being investigated by appropriate authorities, further information will be communicated Later.”
