Some people have raised serious questions for the appellate court to examine, the Archbishop of Sydney says, as he tells worshippers those who are too quick to judge can end up joining the demonisers or the apologists.

The Archbishop of Sydney has urged the community not to"draw any conclusions" following Cardinal George Pell's conviction for child sexual abuse and says the appeals court needs to be given the time and space to review the case. His comments are some of the Catholic Church's first in-depth comments since Pell's conviction

In a sermon at Sydney's St Mary's Cathedral this morning, where he also urged worshippers and the community not to be"too quick to judge", Archbishop Anthony Fisher said the church's readings showed that"things are not always what they seem"."Others have done so and some have raised serious questions for the appellate court to examine.

What parent would let this PellProtector- or any of his fellow frock and robe wearing PellDefenders - anywhere near a child!?

Another pedo supporter!! Australia is full of them. TheStormIsUponUs. Q Qanon DeepStateRevealed PanicInAus WWG1WGA. DrainTheOzzyCessPit DarkToLight

Criminal standard of evidence is high. There was a key witness + key corroboration. It’s right to reflect on ourselves & motives for vitriol. But i’m more likely to develop healthy sex attitude listening to researchers eg MichaelGLFlood than smoke & mirror merchants.

Read:'they'll be coming for me next unless I weasel my way out of this one'.

When will the Catholic Church ever admit that things are just as they seem, we literally had a royal commission that showed exactly this, the church has hundreds of convictions globally against its priests and its Org. It is what it f$&ing is!

Is this the same guy that accused parents of molested children as 'dwelling crankily' on past issues?

Convicted pedophile.

Like the holly grail is that what are you telling us ?

Would the same generosity of spirit and reserve of judgement, until all Appeals have been exhausted, be held for any other criminal found guilty of a crime especially the same crimes?

Just like their bullshit about god

juries often get it wrong ...Michael Jackson for eg was found innocent ...only because he was liked by the Jury ...more so than his accusers ...here we have a reversal of fortunes and Pell may very well be a scapegoat for the many kids Priests HAVE systematically abused ...

Well, that is true. Pell seemed like a man of God, when in fact he was the complete opposite. How horrifying for innocent children to experience such an obscene revelation.

there’s up to a year of this to go before the appeal trial. this institution, rationalising its multiple and ongoing failure to address the rape of children by priests and the ongoing psychic trauma they inflict on all of us with their weird self serving ideology exhausting

No they aren’t. For instance, Catholic clergy seemed to be honorable and trustworthy men of God. But for quite a few, things were not what they seemed.

what a waste of abc resources airing this multiple times today , please stop giving them air.

What a disgrace. How is the support not to the victims?

The Catholic Church denied abused children justice for so long, most of it under Pell. Why would any right minded Catholic should care about what happens to Pell?

Truth is, whoever in are responsible for this rubbish, thinking they are helping GeorgePell, are extremely naive. The likelihood of any appeal being successful is virtually zero. So what Pell needs is to do things that will dimish the time to be served in gaol.

Omg this cult is nauseating.🤮

Archbishop of Sydney he may be. But he’s still stuck in that same famous Egyptian River that the rest of his Faith’s struggling with!

This is making me sick

That was without a doubt, a nasty sly shot at victims, and the 'Godlike' expectation of an appeal going in Pell's favour. TOO LATE. Now we all know what he did, and what you are willing to do to protect your own. I guess this isnt really another surprise?

This was a disgraceful sermon akin to Trump''s, 'There are good people on both sides.'

Stop. Please. For once in your life, consider the victims.

. continue to force on us an extended bishopric sermon in StMarysCathedral telling us that we cannot judge GeorgePell until the appellant has ruled. STFU , you are engaging us in an offensive campaign, the victims need more support than this shit, Getit?

Like all priests, deny and protect the church. Pell was guilty of many things, he has simply been jailed for sexual assault. All those abused children over the years that he has paid off, he could have gone to the police and didn't. He is guilty pf man crimes against children.

Innocence until proven guilty..but in all courts and the appeal ones.

Sexual Abuse of any kind is abhorrent I don't give a shit who you are Religion is a made up story with never ending funds to manipulate the world full of corruption

Anyone who put money in the pass around plate today. should have a good hard look at themselves .

I love that jury conviction are now seen as somehow only tentative or preliminary until an appeal court confirms them. Makes you wonder why jury members even bother.

The Archbishop & his colleagues must hand over all paedophiles & everyone who has covered up the rape of children to the police & they must excommunicate them to have any credibility. Action is required, not words, enough of the bullshit.

This man twittering on about not making comments because of the ongoing legal course taking place. There is no legal course at the moment. He is guilty and awaits sentence.

paul_anforth Crystal clear to me, Pell was convicted in a court of law and due process was followed, he has spent an extraordinary amount on defence resources, his barrister and legal team cross examined the victim. Accept the verdict.

Yes, they are worse than they seem

Lose the tin foil hat and I might listen to what you have to say, or are you too paranoid about your guilt?

He'd want to hope things aren't what they seem, because it sure SEEMS like he's taking the side of a convicted child rapist...

Yes, i would agree on that. Church is not what it seems it is the place where children can be sexually abused, and pedophiles and rapists could be safe...

Maybe he should be jail with him 🤬🤬🤬

Would it be more factual to have crime scene tape around every Catholic Church. At least until they hand over all their records of pedophile's within the church and provide compensation all survivors.

Oh really? Seems to me that your church is full of child abusers, he was found guilty by a jury, the evidence was clearly compelling!

Where's the apology?

'Nearly 50 dioceses and religious orders have publicly identified child-molesting priests in the wake of the Pennsylvania report issued in mid-August, and 55 more have announced plans to do the same over the next few months. Together they account for...

No they r not, so we can b excused for thinking that the assault of kids runs a lot deeper, even at upper echelon’s.

Ironically, he's right. Things are not always as they seem. Their trust has been as badly betrayed as those of Pell's young, defenseless victims. They too are his victims without even realizing it.

I am baffled by the premise that “innocent until proven guilty” now means “innocent despite being proven guilty until all appeal rights have been exhausted”. This is a perversion of legal principle and a subversion of our justice system.

Unanimous jury seemed happy with how things seemed.

Like god?

The Catholic Church is just that, a church, a religion like other religions & it must be subject to all State Laws including those of 'Notification'. The Church is made up of humans not gods. It is not a State.

Guilty is guilty. What don't they understand? Should an appeal, on whatever grounds, go Pell's way he will be released, either to be recharged, or set free. However until then he's guilty as charged. No ifs, no buts, no excuses.

Sydney Archbishope use to be lawyer so possibly has his legal thinking cap on for this one.

Nobody, except the courts can judge whether Pell is guilty or not. Pell avows his innocence. But utimately, Pell will be judged by the Highest Authority. That is if he is not too ill to travel to meet Him 😇

There will be more exposed down the track, Pell won't be the last facing court.

Churches are past their useby date....

Oh ffs .. the court found him guilty on 5 counts .. the end

ArchbishopMark you better get him in line.

Yes, sometimes something appears to be a church, seeking to do good for all men, when in fact it turns out to be a cover-organisation for rock-spiders.

I suspect that they are actually far worse

Don't be 'too quick to judge', Archbishop Anthony Fisher says in defence of convicted child rapist George Pell.

Checkmate.

Shouldn't the case go to 12 appeal courts?

These clergy make my skin crawl.

To be fair shouldn't the case go to 12 appeal courts?

Wow. More apologists. Gather this has been the norm from the church

WTF, the catholic church is a disgrace to God.

Stop making excuses

Satanists speak with a forked tongue.

Please stop ABC, you know exactly what you trying to do & it is rather silly.

Yes they are. Child abuse is child abuse no excuses
