Prosecutors in Saudi Arabia say they have referred detained women's rights activists to trial and those charged 'enjoy all rights preserved by the laws in the kingdom' after them being reportedly tortured in custody, jongambrellAP reports.

FILE - In this Feb. 22, 2019, file photo, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, right, speaks to Chinese President Xi Jinping during a meeting at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Prosecutors in Saudi Arabia say they have referred detained women's rights activists to trial and that those charged "enjoy all rights preserved by the laws in the kingdom" after them being reportedly tortured in custody.

Prosecutors issued the statement late Friday, referring to their earlier June statement that marked the activists’ arrest just before Saudi Arabia granted women the right to drive. Several people with knowledge of their arrest have told The Associated Press that some of the women detained have been subjected to caning, electrocution and sexual assault. All spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal and to protect personal details about the detainees.

The women, who include activists in their 20s as well as mothers, grandmothers and retired professors, have been accused of vague national security violations in connection with their human rights work. Canadian criticism of the arrests saw Saudi Arabia cut diplomatic ties to Ottawa.

jongambrellAP Hey, we should give that country nuclear technology... Why do we do any busy with them?

proflevin jongambrellAP I guess the kingdom has no law against torturing prisoners. Probably part of why chump's so attracted to it.

jongambrellAP Seems fair

jongambrellAP Really? And they tell the world things are improving for women. How many are locked in dark rooms with food slipped to them until they die? How many are sold to far away places as slaves by families? How many are chained and thrown into a pool to drown?

jongambrellAP You need to stop saying bad things about Jared Kushner's good buddy and Trump's closest pal in the Middle East... Remember, there's money to be made for the Trump Org. and you could be damaging their livelihood...

jongambrellAP Something that turns the gop senate housegop vp base on. rapeymotherfuckers rapeyrepublicans greedyoldfucks mikepence stupidfuck

jongambrellAP So no rights at all then?

jongambrellAP These women and (men) are not being tried for their activism relating to women issues, they are being persecuted for possibly committing treason.

jongambrellAP mavisandjupiter this is why I asked about the driving thing,ok. Now don't be sensitive I didn't make this shit up. Have a nice day!

jongambrellAP Back the Kingdom on this one

jongambrellAP Tortured in custody IS equal protection under the law in our glorious ally’s horrific regime though.

jongambrellAP Women have no rights in Saudi Arabia. It’s disgusting.

jongambrellAP Very fortunate cabal of desert dwellers who mostly sat on sand minding goats until we in the US began to love driving the Buick to target everyday. We can’t complain if we stuff their wallets like they’re our drug dealer. We love our cars that much.

BBuchman_CNS jongambrellAP Where’s Ivanka’s statement condemning this?

BBuchman_CNS jongambrellAP Last time we looked *the laws in the kingdom* are prescribing guardianship over women. They are tremendous, beautiful laws.

jongambrellAP 💔 So the door to equality was opened just a bit, then slammed in the women's faces.

jongambrellAP I am sure that MSB knew nothing of this either! ripkhashoggi!

jongambrellAP Oh no!

ellis_texas jongambrellAP Yet, this is a beloved American ally. Go figure.

jongambrellAP

jongambrellAP

jongambrellAP “Enjoy all rights preserved for....” they will die.

jongambrellAP '...all rights preserved by the laws in the kingdom'. Like the right to be tortured.

jongambrellAP CAVEMEN!

jongambrellAP

jongambrellAP

jongambrellAP It might be true, but those rights might be few and not up to a civilized country's standard.

jongambrellAP Who can confirm that they were tortured ?

jongambrellAP ...glass parking lot.

jongambrellAP

jongambrellAP

jongambrellAP Estos Cavernicolas.

morten jongambrellAP Wasn't jaredkushner just there with Princess Ivanka? The atrocities of MBS go on unchecked by realDonaldTrump. Jamal Keshoggi. No justice. Jared & Ivanka, more self-dealing loans and trademarks at the expense of a tortured journalist.

jongambrellAP Finché il libero arbitrio sarà un tabù, è illusorio credere, che solo con il denaro si possa essere competitivi a livello internazionale

jongambrellAP You can never underestimate the perfidy of arab leaders It is a prerequisite - nature and nurture

jongambrellAP bebest

jongambrellAP What a fucked up mentality SaudiEmbassyUK this country has. Still in the dark ages. saudinews50_en

jongambrellAP ... But that's ok, 'cos they buy their weapons from UK, USA et al, and a blind eye is shown to human rights. But when they stop buying weapons or the oil runs out...... Whoa there! You've got WMD!

jongambrellAP jaredkushner care to comment? Have you perhaps what’s app’d your PAL MBS about this? IvankaTrump think this is cool?

jongambrellAP Reportedly tortured? What does that mean? Listening to anything Congressperson AOC has to say is pure unadulterated torture.

morten jongambrellAP Another very good reason to consider going electric, folks.

morten jongambrellAP What rights? It is Saudi Arabia. Mohammed bone Sawman is not exactly a human rights guy.

jongambrellAP IvankaTrump Well Ivanka - proponent of women’s rights - hubby is BFFs with MBS....he was just with him...what are YOU doing to help this situation? Or are you too busy creating millions of jobs or whatever else it is that a “senior advisor” does?

VenomPit360 jongambrellAP Meanwhile, Jarad+Ivanka happy to do biz deals w/ murderous MBS in a terror-sponsor state infamous for misogyny & human rights abuses.

jongambrellAP ICJ_org should assign international observers for such trials.

jongambrellAP “Enjoy all rights preserved by the laws in the kingdom“. That’s rich

jongambrellAP Guess our senior diplomat Jared really got through to him 2 days ago.

jongambrellAP We should change our foreign policy to support countries that support and show our values and our core values are human rights, freedom of the press and speech. Any country that fails in these values should not receive US aid in any shape or form.

jongambrellAP Saudi is ass-backwards. It is disgusting the way women get treated. The men act like Neanderthals. They sure like the money & American things they buy. Saudi is bad news. Evil.

jongambrellAP Good thing no one wants to sell Saudi Arabia weapons ! ( this is sarcasm)

jongambrellAP Only Fake News media claim they have been tortured... they enjoy full rights...

jongambrellAP Always the peaceful tolerant religion. You can count on that.

jongambrellAP Barbaric! Killing journalists and torturing women activists is evil, yet our country remains on good terms with them! I am praying for these women. 😥

jongambrellAP Venezuela?......

jongambrellAP What women's rights?

jongambrellAP Rights preserved by the kingdom? If the face of a married lady is exposed to a gentleman of the authority or the exposed skin of a lady's hand touched by them, wouldn't that constitute an offensive act? Else, how could the lady, rather than a male relative be even summoned?

jongambrellAP Why do these guys have tablecloths on their heads?

jongambrellAP So none then?

jongambrellAP But remember, boys and girls, those medieval people are our friends.

jongambrellAP They “enjoy all rights preserved by the laws in the Kingdom”? It just so happens that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia practically preserves no rights for its citizens & certainly not for its female citizens. Expect this trial to be a sham!

jongambrellAP Animals. All of them.

jongambrellAP Never allow vengeance feminism to invade the heart and mind of your daughter.

jongambrellAP Well. Pardon me for pointing out. The laws of the Kingdom is the main issue. If the law itself says it's OK to torture women, what can one say. Ha.

jongambrellAP You have no idea if they’ve been tortured, but you definitely want to give the impression that they have.

jongambrellAP Selman' ı hiç sevmem ama , BATI İKİYE BÖLÜNDÜ .?. Trump kılıç dansı yapar , ötekisi ayar vermeye çalışır -:) hayırdır neler oluyor.?. 👳🎅💂

jongambrellAP Disgust. Just like how MeghanMcCain wants to violate the reproductive rights of American women. Funny, that.

jongambrellAP Vile government, vile laws!

jongambrellAP The one in my right...is the one that need to be put on trial....for be to much of abusive macho...no a man..

BBCWorld Fanya exchange opening ceremony hosted by the Yunnan government! Fraud citizens 43 billion yuan!
