Judge Kidd has questioned whether in Pell's mind at the time he thought he could get away with his crimes, which he described as 'utterly brazen', and thought he had a degree of impunity, reports acooperjourno

Mr Gibson has recapped the offences Pell was convicted of: that after a Sunday mass in December 1996 he came across two 13-year-old choir boys who had snuck into a sacristy - the room priests use to prepare for mass and disrobe afterwards - in St Patrick's Cathedral, and sexually assaulted both.

Then, early in 1997, Pell shoved one of the boys into a wall in a corridor inside the cathedral and squeezed his genitals. Mr Gibson described Pell's crimes as serious offending against boys he was ultimately responsible for."These acts were humiliating and degrading toward each boy ... there was a degree of callous indifference in response to the boys ."

Pell's crimes displayed a breach of trust, Mr Gibson said, as he was responsible for the boys the same way a school principal was for students. "Cardinal Pell was the driving force and in charge of his cathedral and these two choristers were cogs in the cathedral wheel in Sunday masses," he said.Meanwhile, outside the court, abuse survivor advocate John Lawrance from the Care Leavers Australasia Network said he hoped George Pell would be taken off to jail as soon as today.

acooperjourno

acooperjourno To rehabilitate you’d have to admit you have a problem.

acooperjourno Total bullshit. An entire life devoted solely to his own ambition, zero compassion or empathy, proven predatory attacks and no remorse at all. Rehabilitation? What ignorant mind penned that crap?

acooperjourno Just don’t let him babysit the kids during his rehabilitation...!!!

acooperjourno To rehabilitate, first you’d have to accept you have a problem From what Pell has said and done I’d say his chances of rehabilitation were zero.

acooperjourno Can’t reoffend in a dark cell

acooperjourno You can't be rehabilitated if you don't accept your guilt.

acooperjourno At 77 he’d be lucky to get it up, without Viagra! &, by Law, no Dr would prescribe Viagra to a convicted Ped! So Cptn Kidd’s probably right there. It’s not a mitigating circumstance though & should have no bearing on the length of his sentence. Though I bet it will! 🙄

acooperjourno What? With 77 years of being that way? Doubt it.

acooperjourno That flies in the face of the forensic experience that untreated pedophiles lacking in remorse or empathy for their victims almost always re offend.

George Pell case: Why the public isn't allowed to know the specificsHere's an explanation of the law which determines what can and can't be published in criminal court cases. Finally. SBS auspol This will end up being what I call the two tiered justice system in Australia. Bloke down the road = Multiple years of prison dependent on how many offences. Famous/rich/elite = Little chance of prison. If imprisoned, small sentence in a secure, affable lockup. I live in the US now. Can you hear me screaming for joy from over here Georgey-poo?!!! 🎉🎉🎉😈💃💃
