The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on the ethics of the Supreme Court, with Republicans offering a bleak future for the Democrats' ethics code bill.

The committee is slated to debate a bill introduced by Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse that would set new requirements for financial disclosures and recusal in cases in which a justice may have a conflicting interest. The bill is overwhelmingly backed by Senate Democrats and strongly opposed by Senate Republicans.Sen.

"It's going to get out of committee. It doesn't have 60 votes in the Senate. And it sure can't pass the House. So why do it? Why beat the living crap out of the United States Supreme Court? I just don't get it. I understand politics, but I just don't get it," Kennedy said.Republicans have said they support a Supreme Court-instated rule of ethics but not one backed by Congress.
