Macron's pensions reform enacted into law as French unions remain defiant

France's gazette of record in which appearance of legislation means it has been enacted into law — publishes text of pensions reform, amending word"sixty-two" to"sixty-four" for the country's age of retirement.French President Emmanuel Macron's pensions reform has been officially promulgated into a law following approval from the constitutional court, as unions vow to oppose the controversial changes including raising the retirement age from 62 to 64.

The nine-member Constitutional Council ruled in favour of key provisions of the reform, including raising the retirement age to 64 and extending the years of work required for a full pension, saying the legislation was in accordance with French law. "It's scandalous. Where's the democracy?" said Bea, a 61-year-old librarian, one of thousands who gathered outside Paris' city hall.

In the western city of Rennes, protesters set fire to the entrance of a police station and a conference centre.The offices of the Constitutional Council, near the Louvre museum, have been protected with barriers, and riot police were on guard nearby.
