Arizona Supreme Court upholds Latter-day Saint priest-penitent privilege in sex abuse case via KSLcom

The decision upheld a Dec. 15 ruling by the Arizona Court of Appeals, which also had ruled in favor of the church in a lawsuit filed by three children of Paul Adams, a former church member who died by suicide in 2017 while in jail after he was arrested for child pornography for filming and distributing his sexual abuse of the girls.

The children sued last year, naming the church, two bishops and other church members and alleging they had been negligent not to report Adams after he made a private spiritual confession to his bishop in 2010 and was excommunicated in 2013. It is decisions like this that continue to validate my decision to leave the church 19 years ago. When a tax exempt corporation is on the side of the abuser, I know that leaving was in fact 'Choosing the Right'

I am pleasantly surprised that KSL covered this story but where's the statement from the church on why they would want to protect abusers and molesters from the law? Where's the 'hang them by the millstone ' crowd for those that harm children. Why are all churches harming kids?

Isn’t just amazing how so many religious organizations like the LDS claim to be against sexual abuse but are never on the side of the abused but the abusers? It’s way past time to tax these for profit businesses and end the endless grift.

Pedophiles protecting pedophiles?! A lawyer can break atty/client privilege if they know someone is going to commit a crime against another. Drs, nurses, teachers, etc. are mandatory reporters of CSA. Lets give ministers a free pass to allow children to continue to be raped! SICK

The church did nothing wrong all along. Where’s the apologies from the AP and the Mormon haters?

Right, let’s protect the abusers. I guess it follows the example of brother Joseph lol.
