Opinion: Supreme Court\u0027s decision in health\u002Dcare case is a win for lack of accountability in the public sector

Day scoffed: “The minister is from Quebec where citizens enjoy these rights and a federal employee who also enjoys the right to go to a private clinic. British Columbians don’t. Our clinic is right now treating residents of other provinces, but B.C. residents are prohibited.

“It sends a strong message that our nation’s highest court supports the principles of universal health care where access to medical care is determined by a patient’s needs, not their ability to pay their way to the front of the line,” Dix opined. Yet it was a previous NDP administration that allowed more than a score of private clinics such as Cambie to open in the 1990s.

Prescription drugs, dentistry, and physiotherapy are outside the Medical Services Plan and can be covered by private insurance, he added.

Opinion: Canadians are the biggest losers in the Supreme Court’s latest health care decisionOnly in Canada can the top court give Quebeckers special privileges when it comes to their health and deny those same rights to B.C. The 'privilege' here is the ability to spend one's own money on needed health services the government fails or refuses to provide, rather than being forced by law to do without this needed health care. Some 'privilege'. It's hard to imagine a more basic economic right. suekings35 True, but many in the media in this country, including your paper, have done little to challenge the thinking around healthcare. The Globe is by and large a 'safe space' for readers that prefers to coddle with politically correct nonsense rather than to challenge. Imagine suggesting that spending my own $$ to procure the essential health care I'm effectively denied by the state is a 'privilege' this is liberal_party ndp SCC_CSC totalitarianism only Orwell could envision
