Justin Bourque had been sentenced to serve three consecutive life sentences for first-degree murder, meaning a 75-year wait before he could apply for parole.
A Supreme Court of Canada decision last year involving the Quebec City mosque murderer struck down a law that made it possible for judges to extend parole ineligibility periods beyond 25 years for people convicted of multiple murders. Justin Bourque is depicted in an artist’s sketch at his sentencing hearing in Moncton, N.B., on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Carol Taylor.Today’s decision from the Court of Appeal of New Brunswick means Bourque, who was 24 at the time of the murders, will be eligible to apply for parole after serving 25 years.
White delight
Makes sense if your trying to destroy faith in your country
Why. Three lives lost. Families left to mourne their loss forever. Legal system is an ass!!!
Hi first sentence would mean he be 99 years old full sentence without parole, it was then fixed so it be connotational rights to have at least one time let out in his life sentence. Also not guaranteed to get parole. I hope if he got out put a leg bracelet on him.
That should not have happened.
SenatorWallin What a garbage headline. They didn't reduce his sentence. They reduced his parole eligibility because it's unconstitutional to impose anything more than 25 years.
Why?! He should be in prison for the remaining duration of his life.
Bourque killed3&got life w/min.75yrs, reduced to 25. According to our courts, mass murderers must only be punished for 1murder.The rest are freebies! Time for a new law allowing consecutive sentences (e.g.75yrs via notwithstanding clause that says '**** you' to unjust courts
