A court has reduced the precedent-setting sentence of a New Brunswick man who fatally shot three Mounties in 2014.

Justin Bourque had been sentenced to serve three consecutive life sentences for first-degree murder, meaning a 75-year wait before he could apply for parole.

A Supreme Court of Canada decision last year involving the Quebec City mosque murderer struck down a law that made it possible for judges to extend parole ineligibility periods beyond 25 years for people convicted of multiple murders. Today's decision from the Court of Appeal of New Brunswick means Bourque, who was 24 at the time of the murders, will be eligible to apply for parole after serving 25 years.

The Court of Appeal says the Supreme Court ruling is "binding on us" and governs the outcome of Bourque's appeal. This report by The Canadian Press was first published March 2, 2023.

strongly recommend to outsource criminals to third world countries, u will save money and lives

The bastards of illegitimate birth are losing all, so they need to upset anyone anyway they can.. they have the terminal illness remember, and that is why they are capable of such things, don't get me started on the inherent brain malformations with their people either.

Wrong. We’re doomed

Serious offer. Would your company like some free legal training to understand basic concepts so that they can properly report on the stories they cover? This is a sad, misleading, outrageous headline.

Disgusting

They did no such thing! Who writes these headlines?

Who is working at CTV now? Chat bots? Interns?

Thank you Trudeau government for lowering jail time on serious crime and releasing them back into society faster to do more harm

Here ctvnews : 'Court reduces parole ineligibility on life sentence from 75 years to 25 years for Moncton Mountie killer Justin Bourque' - also pro tip: he's not getting paroled in 25 years - I'd bet my house on it!

No they didn't, his sentence is the exact same. What changed is that he's now eligible for parole in 25 years, because of a supreme court decision.

No they didn't. It's one lie after another with our media. I hope you all face law suits like Fox is. Time for the hammer to drop.

So sad! This scum bag doesn’t deserve any pity

Should be a life sentence for each murder, what's wrong with that? That's like saying you can kill 3 for the price of one

His parole eligibility was reduced, not his life sentence. Read the replies to your misleading Tweet to see how you are engendering unfounded disrespect of our judicial system. Shame! CdnMediaFailed

Again Canadians are reminder our justice system is severely tilted to the criminals. The fact that a life sentence let alone a triple life sentence doesn’t mean life is insane. Should be life with possibility of parole and a true life with no possibility of parole available

Close all prisons and send the convicts to Vancouver .

We don’t have a justice system, only a legal system. Thanks Agnes Macphail!

The court did not reduce his sentence. Why is CTV always wrong when it comes to reporting on criminal matters?

Just so folks don’t get it twisted: “It based its ruling on last year's Supreme Court of Canada, which struck down a law that made it possible for judges to extend parole ineligibility periods beyond 25 years for people convicted of multiple murders.

Guess he didn't kill enough people and terrorize an area enough?

They did NOT reduce his sentence. JFC.

Bunch of bleeding heart judges appointed by the Liberals.

Bad headline, folks. I expect better than this Rebel-esque button-pushing from CTV.

The politicians just keep letting this happen over and over and over again. Gun control is nothing without proper jail terms. Maybe add the death penalty

This is really a misleading headline!

👎👎

What a joke

Relax people he still has 25 to life ,no one will grant him parole ever. This sentencing for 3 lifetimes is a joke ' who has 3 lifetimes'

Fire the judges and overhaul the legal system since the system values the rights of offenders over victims. We are not equal under the law, currently.

Time to end this shit. Bring back the death penalty. Time to stop kissing the ass if convicted killers. And life is life not 25 years. Canada sucks and don’t have to balls to change this. Death penalty will take care of this is no rime

Only in Canada and that is why the criminals want to come to Canada and the rest of the world laughs at us.

Scumbag.

We need to remove all these judges

Liberal judge I presume.

And WTF would they do that?

Sickening.

This country is a joke

This is absolutely disgusting. Our courts and laws need a major overhaul. If you want reduce crime make the sentence fot the crime. He should never get bail ! The Supreme Court should be ashamed of themselves!!!😡😡😡

Only in Canada eh.
