Future of U.S. student loans forgiveness plan shaky after Supreme Court hearing

Conservative justices holding the Supreme Court’s majority seem ready to sink President Joe Biden’s plan to wipe away or reduce student loans held by millions of Americans.

Roberts was among the justices who grilled Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar and suggested that the administration had exceeded its authority.Three times, the chief justice said the program would cost a half-trillion dollars, pointing to its wide impact and hefty expense as reasons the administration should have gotten explicit approval from Congress.

Those earlier programs halted by the court were billed largely as public health measures intended to slow the spread of COVID-19. The loan forgiveness plan, by contrast, is aimed at countering the economic effects of the pandemic. The justices’ questions mirrored the partisan political divide over the issue, with conservatives arguing that non-college workers should not be penalized and liberals arguing for the break for the college educated.

Supreme Court Justice Russell Brown is on a leave of absence | CBC NewsSupreme Court Justice Russell Brown has been on a leave of absence from the court since the beginning of February — something the top court says is related to a confidential matter. This isnt news. It's not unusual for a SCC Justice to not participate in a judgement even though they were present at the appeal. What a coinky-dink. Aren't one-fifth of CBC staff on some-sort of paid leave of absence, too? 'If it's personal leave, it's personal... But we should still be told!' That's not how that works.

U.S. Supreme Court seems ready to sink student loan forgivenessConservative justices holding the U.S. Supreme Court's majority seem likely to sink President Joe Biden's plan to wipe away or reduce student loans held by millions of Americans. Old enough to change their gender BUT not to pay their bills!!! What bullshit ! if 1 million people sign a contract how on earth is it legal to change the contract for only 30% of them? if person B who paid back their student loan doesn't get the same advantage as person A who didn't its just vote buying. 'I was 18 when I signed up for college. I didn't know it was going to be this big of a burden”. Aaww, poor baby. So the responsible citizens have to pay you?! Just another Biden vote-buying scheme to win over the snowflakes.
