Tania Breen stole more than $145,000 from two employers

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THESE SALTWIRE VIDEOS

When Breen’s employer discovered the theft, Breen and her ex-husband — who was innocent, she wrote to their boss in an email — were fired. That review determined Breen had been writing cheques to herself for unauthorized amounts totalling $15,633.33. Breen broke down as she told the court she had gone to visit her son one day in October 2019 and found him dead in his home of an accidental drug overdose.

“By not telling them, do you realize that’s continuing the same kind of behaviour of dishonesty?” Judge James Walsh asked Breen. “By not disclosing it to an employer you’re really lying to them, too, and you got fired for your lies because you hadn’t told them the truth up front.”
