🔴 President Cyril Ramaphosa has survived a crucial impeachment vote. 🔴 South Africa's parliament voted against starting an impeachment process, with almost all of the ruling ANC party choosing to back their leader in the ballot. Follow the latest:

The sitting to debate the report, which was commissioned from a panel of legal experts by the speaker, opened with a discussion over whether MPs should be allowed to vote in secret - something which the speaker had rejected. Some 214 lawmakers voted against setting up an impeachment committee, while 148 voted in favour, two abstentions were registered.

This scandal erupted in June, when a former South African spy boss, Zuma-ally Arthur Fraser, filed a complaint with police accusing the president of hiding a theft of $4m in cash from his Phala Phala game farm in 2020. South Africa has strict rules on holding foreign currency, which say that it must be deposited with an authorised dealer such as a bank with 30 days. It appears as though the president may have broken those rules, according to the panel's report.

The president argues that the panel went beyond its scope when looking at whether he had a case to answer related to the robbery at the farm.

In Africa, we should do away with Indepndence political parties or parties connected to a previous struggle . They think we owe them. They are dragging us down

African politics; loyalty to party first not country. This is why African countries and citizens don't develop but individual politicians develop. 😭😭
