JUSTICE MINISTER HELEN McEntee is to begin her maternity leave this evening, with Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys taking over the justice brief until 17 December.

She will do so again until the Cabinet reshuffle which will take place when the role of the Taoiseach rotates. However, McEntee said the legislation is now expected to come before Cabinet in the next few weeks, adding that it will be within the parameters of the laws that protect privacy. McEntee said her department has worked with various different groups and organisations to ensure the legislation does not impede on anybody’s civil liberties.

“That legislation will be brought to Cabinet in the coming weeks. The funding will be there to make sure that the body worn cameras can be rolled out and this is really about keeping people safe. Garda Commissioner Drew Harris said any issues around civil liberties have been addressed by other European countries.

I feel safer already

At least she has kids and will at least think about their future unlike those other childless politicians in charge of our children it seems to be a trend having politicians with no kids in charge

The worst Justice Minister we have ever had....

Hopefully she'll stay away

Here we go again. Best of luck to her & family, but if you take on the very important Justice Minister position in Ireland during multiple national crisis scenario, it's entirely impractical to be away twice for nearly a year at a time. Jim O'Callaghan should have been appointed.

Jasus shes dropping sprogs like a good ting.

A senior government minister is not a normal. First of all it's ridiculous that she is choosing to have her family at this time but it's more ridiculous that she is taking all this time off.

She's hardly been at work...

Again! Ffs she’s done nothing else since scraping into politics besides having babies.

What happens on 17th December? With the state of the country, don't tell me they're taking holidays? They've been on f*ucking holidays for the last 11 years

Will that be on full pay

Image such an 'important' minister can simply be replaced by Humphreys keeping an eye on McEntee's emails. She doesn't even need a substitute. A cash register in a shop cannot function without an absent staff being replaced at that till, but not so for the Justice Minister.
