WASHINGTON—The Senate on Tuesday confirmed U.S. District Judge J. Michelle Childs for a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, a prominent appeals court where several Supreme Court justices have served.

Confirmed on a vote of 64-34, Judge Childs is set to replace Judge David Tatel, who in May took senior status, a form of semiretirement that creates a judicial vacancy.
