A Gold Coast-based tribe have filed a Native Title claim for a prized piece of land in the city and revealed they intend to use the area for their own commercial purposes.

The Kombumerri-NgarangWal Saltwater People have filed a Native Title claim “reaffirming our legitimate rights to our land, the resident traditional owners of the broader Gold Coast lands and waterways at the southern end of Quandamooka Country’’.

They have ownership of the land, prescribed by native title laws promulgated by the US Supreme Court. “Our focus is ensuring sustainable connection of our people to country. The subjugation and marginalisation in the past is over.

Well if i remember Correctly they had there Own Board to Rule and Look after there Own People and that wad a Flop...i Wait with Abbated Breath 2 c if they get it.

If I recall correctly, The Spit was only created naturally in the last 100 years or so, then artificially altered. How can they claim something that didn’t exist in the past?

Interesting court case in the USA on the basis of those who improve land own it. And quite rightly so.

Ah yes, the conservative right wing whites still living in the past.

It just so happens that all of the sacred sites and native claims tend to be on prospective mining areas or some commercially valued land. Coincidence, I think not. Then all of the proof they offer for claims is in storytelling as they had not invented writing. Stories change.

Of course they have. It won’t stop till we’re all paying native title taxes whilst they piss up all the free tax payer money.
