The federal constitutional right to abortion is gone, JeannieSGersen writes. Today’s Supreme Court decision ushers in an era of grave doubt about the status of liberty in the United States.

last month, from which the Court’s final opinion is not substantially different, but the decision still came down as a surreal shock. The three liberal Justices dissented “with sorrow—for this Court, but more importantly, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection.”

The difference between preserving and eliminating a long-held constitutional right involves a crude reality of political machinations and contingency in filling these seats—which makes it galling to read the Court’s righteous condemnation of Roe v. Wade as an exercise of “raw judicial power,” and its self-portrayal as a picture of proper judicial restraint.

Kavanaugh flexed this muscle by addressing questions about decisions that may come after Dobbs. “The Constitution neither outlaws abortion nor legalizes abortion,” he wrote.

With this, America is now China, minus the efficiency. Your great nation forgets that great empires are not defeated, but crumble from within.

Two issues: Obama didn't get Merrick Garland in and he should have and two, Ginsberg should have retired years before that.

I guess there is always Mom’s decision to take her own life, correct? Just a question and a concern

Lol! No.

Men must be held accountable.women are the half of the issue.

Raw judicial power = leave to the state legislators that decision which the Justices back in 1973 botched so badly. Yeah that makes sense.

For the hard right SCOTUS, the Constitution is whatever they say it is. Their reign of terror led by Thomas/ Robespierre has only begun.

I wish this was a better essay; alas, not well argued or developed. Mere assertion is not a good trump for argument.

Remember when we shut the world down to “save just one life”

God I wish those Supreme Court justices would all catch covid and go extinct

But you avoided warning us back then while you let Federalist Society misogynists have your platform to lie without pushback and made Dr Ford seem suspicious.

They struck down a prior act of judicial power, calling it poorly reasoned and harmful. Which it was.

JeannieSGersen When you support slavery, you lose elections and SCOTUS picks. Right, Jeannie?

JeannieSGersen It was a made-up “right” to begin with

JeannieSGersen That era was already here

JeannieSGersen Twitter is just being used to mark conservatives for later reprisal and to promote Radical democrats' propaganda, threats, violence and Insurrection. We have been throttled and shadow banned our whole time here. Sometimes they forget to block a Tweet, BIG difference.

JeannieSGersen Children of the corn grew up an became judges

JeannieSGersen No matter how deeply I delve into my pocket Constitution, I can't seem to locate where abortion is identified as a right.

JeannieSGersen Animals are much better parents than some humans Female animals don't kill their babies. It's not in their nature to do so.

JeannieSGersen Where in the constitution is the word abortion?

JeannieSGersen Constitutional right? What a joke of an opinion.

Dallas-Houston Bullet Train Developer Can Use Eminent Domain, Texas Supreme Court RulesThe Texas Supreme Court on Friday issued a major decision in favor of developers planning to build a high-speed train between Dallas and Houston. This thing has been a pipe dream since the '30s Hyperloop tech is more or less ready, at a fraction of the cost to build and a fraction of the cost to run, meaning exponentially lower ticket prices for a much faster trip. Building anything with traditional tracks in the 21st century should be a non-starter
