The Senate once again failed to advance abortion rights legislation Wednesday, in a largely symbolic effort Democrats mounted in response to the Supreme Court’s draft opinion overturningthe Senate rejected the Democratic legislation, with Sen. Joe Manchin and all Republicans voting against the measure.
Meanwhile, Sen. Bob Casey , who has previously backed abortion restrictions, announced his support for the underlying bill earlier this week. He had voted to move forward on the version of the legislation the Senate took up in February. Senate Republicans, meanwhile, unanimously opposed the Democratic bill, with many citing that it would allow abortions later in pregnancy.
“We are focused on solutions that actually meet the moment,” a Senate Democratic aide told reporters on a Monday night call, on condition of anonymity. With the Democratic bill defeated, both Sens. Tim Kaine and Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin are speaking with Collins about a potential bipartisan path forward.

This would have literally passed if they made the bill about protection for the first trimester. But the dems had to take an extreme position.

Here’s a better & easier way to protect abortion rights: tell POTUS to stop blocking ERA. If Women had basic equality & Equal Protection of the laws, ALL laws that affect Women, including Roe, would be better protected. Biden could unblock ERA with a phone call, but he refuses
You had 50 years to write a level-headed bill. You wrote a bill that reads like it took maybe 20 minutes. By pushing this 1/4 baked word salad you manage to alienate and anger everyone - those in favor of abortion rights and those against them. An amazing shitshow.
They didn't have the vote thinking it would pass. This is to get everyone's vote on record so it can be used for or against them in the fall elections.

Manchin was clear that this bill gave too many rights to women. And he is a NO!
It did not fail, because all major media is leading with it. It never was an abortion bill is is/was a make breaking news/rally the vote bill.
