The Senate passed legislation to beef up security for Supreme Court justices, ensuring they and their families are protected as the court deliberates abortion access and whether to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade decision.

The bipartisan bill, which passed by voice vote with no objections, did not provide additional funding, which could come later. But it aims to put the court on par with the executive and legislative branches, ensuring the nine justices are provided security as some protesters have gathered outside their homes. The bill now moves to the House for its consideration.

Protests have erupted in front of the Supreme Court and around the country after a leaked draft opinion suggested a majority of conservatives on the court are prepared to end the constitutional right to an abortion from the nearly 50-year-old Roe v. Wade ruling. The legislation is a technical change that allows Supreme Court law enforcement to provide around-the-clock security to immediate family members, in line with protection for certain people in the executive and legislative branches. It was sponsored by Sens. Chris Coons, D-Del., and John Cornyn, R-Texas.

Cornyn said threats to Supreme Court justices and their families are “disgraceful” and attempts to intimidate the independence of the judiciary branch shouldn’t be tolerated.

I see, humanrights aren’t important enough for the theSenate to codify in a bipartisan way, but protecting corrupt SC judges is 🤬

You’d think the Ds would see that Biden’s aggregate approval rating is now LOWER than Trump’s and take it as a giant flashing red warning—but then they go and do pointless tonedeaf crap like this and it really makes you wonder if they’re actively trying test how low it will go…

That they can push thru in one day?

Hey, LeaderMcConnell , if you're so worried about these 'justices', remember you put them in this position.

Hey HouseDemocrats SenateDems DNC SenSchumer SpeakerPelosi, the fact that you could push *this* legislation through no prob - for the folks attempting to strip protections of OUR freedoms - while stalling on the issues that matter to us, is why we don't believe you anymore.

Oh really • you want to feel safe while you vote on a law that was voted already law of the land • firin time for you govt boys

The protesters have ensured a vote to overturn.

and who is protecting the women these SCOTUS judges just sent to DIE?

so they are scared and rightfully so

TheRealCoryElia

sleep tight justices. lol

DavidLHardy4 Well, of course they want to wrestle with a difficult decision in privacy, without outside interference. It's almost like they were deciding on whether to have an abortion.

SCOTUS: Total hypocrites.

Ban all male sexual enhancement drugs. If 'God' wants all babies born, 'God' also wants all 🍆 to be limp. It's 'God's' will!!!

So they get safety and a country full of women don't. Absolutely wild dissonance here.

The irony is that Thomas's wife will now have security considering that she helped fuel the insurrection
