A three-man panel led by Justice Tsammani had on Wednesday upturned the ruling of the Federal High Court confining Sowore to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) since August 2019.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has asked the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government obey the judgement of the Court of Appeal, Abuja lifting the arbitrary restrictions around human rights activist and convener of #RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore.Reacting, SERAP in a post on its Twitter handle on Wednesday said the activist should not have been arrested in the first place for peacefully exercising his human rights.

The activist was kept in unlawful detention from that period until December 5, 2019 when he was finally released on bail despite two court orders earlier sanctioning his freedom. He remained in unlawful detention until 18 days later when he was released by the secret police for the second time.
