A crime spree committed by a son of the owners of a 15th century castle - where he attempted to hijack a jeep, assaulted a garda and tried to escape from a garda station - was sparked by cocaine-induced paranoid psychosis, a court has heard.
While the driver tried to drive away, Carville continued to grip him. He only let go when another vehicle came along the road, the court heard. When he was arrested and brought to Dundalk Garda Station he tried to escape the premises, threw a cup of water over an officer before assaulting a Garda sergeant by hitting him in the ribs.
Gda Glynn told the court “his parents own Darver Castle” and when he was arrested he “had to be removed from the hedge covered in mud, cuts and scratches.”
