Tennis ace Novak Djokovic has sensationally claimed he was given approval to enter Australia by the Commonwealth before arriving in Melbourne where his visa was ultimately cancelled.

The Serbian tennis ace was given an exemption to participate in the Australian Open in a process run jointly between Tennis Australia and the Victorian government before his visa was cancelled by border force officials upon touching down in Melbourne.

It also said Djokovic had tested positive to COVID-19 on a PCR test on December 16 and was subsequently granted an exemption on that basis by Tennis Australia and an independent medical exemption review panel to play in the Australian Open. Djokovic claimed cancellation of his visa was “affected by a variety of jurisdictional errors” and asked for the court to quash the decision.letters between the Commonwealth and the Health DepartmentStream the latest news on COVID-19 with Flash. Another major embarrassment for Australia

I reckon Gerry Harvey is the last and only person Scomo hasn't screwed over. He may still get one vote.

Djoka is a jerk. No doubt about that... So is Morrison.. Jumped at the cheap political points. Didn't even check what is on the table. Not worthy of a prime minister.

Yes but you still need your documentation to support your visa which in this case relies on an exemption which he has apparently not been able to substantiate.

We know that. He had a visa, which IS the approval to enter.

Could be true. However under Victorian pandemic powers they can deny access to that state. Ergo a Commonwealth tick and Vic veto.

Rubbish!

Everything the ScottMorrisonMP government touches turns to sh1t. It is always only reactive, but its ability to consistently misread the situation and then completely stuff up their response is uncanny.

Truth will come out tomorrow, sadly this has been a political stunt the government got wrong

He may be King in Serbia, but in Australia, if he breaks the law, King is treated the same as a beggar.

Let's move Grand Slam to another better & friendly place to foreigners. No int'l event should be hosted there. F1 races cancelled. So should be done with AO. And australians must be deported abroad by any discretionary reason borders claim eg being aussie. Retaliation

Very likely just another Morrison stuff-up. When it comes to embarrassing Australia around the world, the Liar from the Shire is second to none.

The federal government lied? SHOCK HORROR 🤣🤣🤣

If a letter was sent from the Federal Government to TA stating previous infection without double vaccination is no grounds for an exemption, as evidence provided appears to indicate, then how did it get granted? Reads like a who done it plot - maybe the ball boys can enlighten us

He should show the proof as we would like to know who said what and why.

How hard is it to put him on the next plane. He clearly scamming Australia. He has such disrespectful demeanour towards Australia. A normal celebrity would turn around and leave avoiding dramas.

It seems Scotty and ministers responsible have all gone quiet. Still on holidays? Probably safer at the cricket ...unfortunately, even there he also managed to stuff it up.

'sensationally' it's a routine procedure

Oh well. Seems like the Dark Lord Dutton will need to invade Serbia as well as Chinnahh now. And threaten them with barramundi curries?

Did you just get here?😬 The Twittersphere knows this. Everyone knows Visas are a Fed responsibility We've been saying this Catch up 😖🤨

I've just had a conversation with a friend that manages one of the F1 teams. I've advised it's probably not worth coming to Australia atm.

Ffs we've known this from the start, the Federal government is responsible for visas.

Ooh, interesting. Approved as he tested positive on Dec 16 so Medical Exemption granted, subject to … a PCR test. Maybe he couldn’t provide a PCR test? Why didn’t he have 1 dose before Dec 16? If he tested positive on Dec 16, why was he out & about on December 17, with kids?

Here's my 5022-word essay on why three or four Justice Department special prosecutor's offices should be established to investigate—and if the evidence and their judgment supports it, to criminally charge—our newest ex-president.

Absolute rubbish Home Affairs Minister It's border management with clear communication and guidelines in this age of pandemic. Visa should be given with proper clarifications. The court acceptance of Djokovic suit hearing means the truth will be debated and revealed.

It will all come out tomorrow and if his legel team has released that statement home affairs is in the shit
