Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has been pictured leaving Chester Crown Court on Friday after being released on bail ahead of his trial later this month

Benjamin Mendy has been pictured for the first time after being granted bail during a hearing at Chester Crown Court on Friday.

The Frenchman, who resides in Prestbury, Cheshire, has been in custody since August 26 and was previously denied bail on three occasions. Mendy was previously behind bars at HMP Altcourse in Liverpool but was moved to a top-security prison - HMP Manchester, more commonly known as Strangeways - before Christmas amid fears over his safety.

Mendy was charged with a seventh count of rape in mid-December, coming to light later that month as reporting restrictions were lifted. The previous charges against the 2018 World Cup winner are three counts of rape on 11 October 2020, sexual assault on 2 January 2021, one count of rape on 24 July 2021 and two counts of rape on 23 August 2021.
