Tennis world No.1 Novak Djokovic will remain in visa limbo until at least Monday as he fights to stave off deportation before the Australian Open.
As such, Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews’ lawyer has agreed the tennis star should not be removed from the country until Monday at least, when his case is due back before the court, unless he decides to leave of his own accord. Tennis pros planning to play at Australian Open were required to be fully vaccinated for both entry into the country and entry into the tournament. The Serbian superstar claimed he had an exemption against vaccination allowing him to travel to Australia, but it appears he only had the exemption provided by Tennis Australia to participate in the competition.
The Australian Open begins on January 17 and Judge Kelly wants to know what resources are available for Djokovic. Morrison said entry to Australia required double vaccination or a medical exemption, which Djokovic did not have, and that “rules are rules”.
It's one rule for all. AusOpen Ticket holders, AO staff, ball kids, umpires, retail & hospitality at AO must be double vaxed, why shouldn't players be double vaxed. One simple rule, but he chose his path. It will end in deportation & an automatic 3 year ban from Australia 🤦.
Send him home… send him home 🥲
What a joke - he should go home! Anyone else coming into our country without the correct documentation is put on the next plane back to their country… why not Novak. novax boycottAustralianOpen BoycottDjokovic GoHome AustralianOpen2022
Who is paying the legal fees?
Why limbo, he’s an undesirable and should be deported?
Money speaks all languages. Your average joe blow going through the same thing wouldn’t be given a second thought by the legal system.
Enjoy your weekend in hotel quarantine you flog, Novax
I can't believe he hasn't been shipped home already! 🙄
