Senate Minority Leader McConnell opens the door to revising an obscure 1887 election law as Democrats explore ways to protect the will of voters from any future attempts to overturn election results.

as Democrats explore ways to protect the will of voters from any future attempts to overturn election results.

Centrist Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said she's"completely" open to revising the 1887 law and is working on proposals to do so. "I think you could make a good case that we ought to revisit the statute. I think it's — if I remember correctly — it's very old," he said."It should be very, very clear that the Congress' role is a ministerial one. That might benefit from an update."

"If you're going to rig the game, and then say, 'Oh, we'll count the rigged game accurately.' What good is that?" he said Tuesday. Republicans strenuously oppose the Freedom to Vote Act, which would establish a series of voting-access guarantees across all states while insulating election officials from undue partisan influence, and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, a measure that would raise the bar for states with a history of discrimination to change voting laws.

'There is no question, none, that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day.' —LeaderMcConnell, speaking of Jan6

At the moment of silence for the Capitol Police officers who died, there were only two Republicans who showed up. Shame on GOP for being anti police

Don't think your information is correct, NBC has a History of Making up NEGATIVE NEWS, That is how the Reporters get Paid

Since he is in the minority, we don't need his approval. He is concerned about how many republicons are going to be caught up in the coup attempt. He has to deal w them. No wonder he didn't want an independent counsel.

🤬MoscowMitch

Because he wants to kill the other voting reforms on the table.

I was being mol constantly by grown woman and they put a weapon in my face to be with there daughter's

Spare me the rhetoric on “protecting the will of the voter” NY voted NO to Ballot proposals in November 2021 and GovKathyHochul is proceeding with her own will and passing them anyways. This is ACTUAL democracy being stolen from our citizens. Wake up

This pissing match is getting boring…how about acting like adults for a little while, do any of you remember how?

Here's your apparently needed reminder: Mitch McConnell is not to be trusted. With anything.

'Oh he's just trying to revise some obscure law that you shouldn't look into. But DEMOCRATS are going to give you everything you ever ask for!'

Time for McConnell/GOP dilute - bait & switch. 👿

I think 1887 was Moscow Mitch's first year in Congress.

We must make a difference and not let the Republicans change are safe and efficient voting laws.

This is so turtle boy can claim he did something. And calling Collins a centrist is ridiculous.

Schumer: Senate to vote on filibuster change for voting billIn a letter Monday to colleagues, Schumer, D-N.Y., said the Senate “must evolve” and will “debate and consider” the rules changes by Jan. 17, on or before Martin Luther King Jr. Day, as the Democrats seek to overcome Republican opposition to their elections law package. With all due respect to the time period and intention of the Filibuster, it has been hijacked and stands in the way of Democracy. True Republicans disagree with the current abuse of it as well. I am not a Republican, but I know a few that aren't insane.
