The Justice Department has sued to block Texas’ updated congressional and state House maps, Attorney General Merrick Garland said Monday, alleging that the districts redrawn after the 2020 census disenfranchise minorities in violation of the Voting Rights Act., claims Texas is “refusing to recognize the State’s growing minority electorate.” It asks the court to stop the state from holding elections under the new maps and to redraw Texas’s congressional and state House districts for 2022.
“There are two problems: One, it means that we don’t get a chance to look at these things before they go into effect, which is a very significant aspect of our tools, and instead requires that we challenge every case individually,” Garland said. “And second, it flips the burden of proof.” In a tweet, state Attorney General Ken Paxton, a Republican, called the lawsuit a "ploy to control" Texas voters. "I am confident that our legislature's redistricting decisions will be proven lawful, and this preposterous attempt to sway democracy will fail," he continued.
The end result, the suit says, is “an effort to strengthen the voting power of Anglo citizens while preserving the superficial appearance of Latino control.”
Perhaps they should also investigate Illinois...oh wait thats democrat party controlled...sorry. lol

Our state voted out Gerrymandering and put in a new system which we never were allowed to use because our very red legislature was adamantly opposed to not being able to redistrict and make the boundaries to suit their desires.
