BREAKING: Justice Department sues Texas over new redistricting map, says the plan discriminates against Latino and Black voters.

FILE - Attorney General Merrick Garland speaks at a news conference at the Justice Department in Washington, on Nov. 8, 2021. The Department of Justice has sued Texas over new redistricting maps, saying the plans discriminate against voters in the state's booming Latino and Black populations.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Department of Justice sued Texas over new redistricting maps Monday, saying the plans discriminate against voters in the state’s booming Latino and Black populations. The lawsuit notes that the vast majority of Texas’ population growth over the past decade came from Black, Latino and Asian people, but the new maps that state Republicans drew doesn’t give any of these communities new opportunities to choose their own representatives.

“This is not the first time that Texas has acted to minimize the voting rights of its minority citizens,” Associate Attorney General Vanita Gupta said during a press conference announcing the lawsuit. “Decade after decade, courts have found that Texas has enacted redistricting plans that deliberately dilute the voting strength of Latino and Black voters and that violate the Voting Rights Act.”

Not a good look for texasgov or GovAbbott , but a good help for Latinos and other minorities that TheJusticeDept is standing up for them.

Of course the socialist democrat administrationis suing Texas but in Illinois where the socialist democrats have wipe out every republican district there is no action

Someday when the white become minority, I wander the Dems would still pull race card every time they wanna do something

Love it....go get um

Rs party has nothing to offer when they have to legally rig election results via gerrymandering, close polling sites and passing laws curtailing where and when people can vote.

Gerrymandering should be unconstitutional. Those in favor of it are saying it’s having an advantage over your opponent. Who is the opponent? Democrats? Republicans? Americans? Both sides do this shit and it needs to stop. Problem is, there is too much money loss if this goes away

Why aren't they just squares or rectangles?

If I had a nickel for every time someone screamed Racism...clownworld WeDeserveBetter

Of course it does.

It's either French or England and their other lands. All others enemies, or enemies without knowing!

Oooo fun. Illinois has to be next right? If we want fair and consistent.

You mean it goes against the Democrats voting districts now guess they won’t be winning

Why aren't they suing Illinois?

Couldn't happen to a better worse state. 👏👏👏

This administration is a Shit Show!!

rleas Finally! Progress!

I thought the Supreme Court determined that Republican gerrymandering was legal.

Texas was once a blue state! How on earth it has become a rabid red state is beyond comprehension. If all minorities and moderate whites join hands it can be turned blue again. It deserves to be blue!CNNPolitics

Now do Utah. Please.

Cool. Now how about Ohio? And everywhere else?

Political DOJ, Worst AG in history.

They need to sue Ohio too!

Justice Dept. Is now an enforcer for the needs of the Democrat Party.

Republican frauds

Must be one big lawsuit, then

Another batshit facet of American 'democracy' - politicians and their underlings being allowed to draw up electorates to suit their own ends. Barking mad idea solely for the purposes of ingrained corruption.

Now do Illinois
