German prosecutors are racing to bring the last surviving Nazi perpetrators to justice, and have in recent years increasingly focused attention on lower-ranking Nazi staff. He hopes Josef S. will shed light on the methods used to kill people in the camp, but also that the accused “will say ‘I was wrong, I am ashamed’”, Grumbach told AFP.The Nazi SS guard detained more than 200,000 people at the Sachsenhausen camp between 1936 and 1945, including Jews, Roma, regime opponents and gay people.
The centenarian’s lawyer, Stefan Waterkamp, said his client “has stayed silent” so far on the charges against him. Since then, courts have handed down several guilty verdicts on those grounds rather than for murders or atrocities directly linked to the individual accused.
100yrs old. How did he sleep at night? Is he kept alive by the fear of the dead waiting to greet him?
The gas Chambers are a made up fairly tale.
Why weren't they put on trial after the war? Why wait until they are about to expire?
If he goes not guilty it will be interesting to see where it all ends up. I agree that everyone should be held accountable for their part in war crimes, yet I find it disturbing its one sided. The rape of Berlin is a horrendous war crime, the allied forces aren't innocent either
