BREAKING: The Justice Department has announced it is filing a lawsuit against the state of Texas over its restrictive law against abortions, the Attorney General said.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott addressed the lack of rape exceptions in the new law by saying his state was going to get rapists “off the streets."The Justice Department on Thursday announced it is filing a law suit against the state of Texas"That act is clearly unconstitutional under long-standing Supreme Court precedent," Attorney General Merrick Garland told reporters at a press conference at the Justice Department.

"While the Justice Department urgently explores all options to challenge Texas SB8 in order to protect the constitutional rights of women and other persons, including access to an abortion, we will continue to protect those seeking to obtain or provide reproductive health services pursuant to our criminal and civil enforcement of the FACE Act, 18 U.S.C. § 248," he said in the statement.

"The FACE Act prohibits the use or threat of force and physical obstruction that injures, intimidates, or interferes with a person seeking to obtain or provide reproductive health services," the statement continued."It also prohibits intentional property damage of a facility providing reproductive health services.

I don’t think the Federal government should get involved, but I do think it’s too strict. I agree that 6 weeks is many time too soon for a woman to even know she’s pregnant, and she needs time to search her soul to make a very difficult decision. There should also be exceptions.

Where in the Constitution can I find this right? Please be specific.

Murders Babys No Concience

Good. Now remove GovAbbott from office. Send in the NationalGuard to ensure a peaceful transition if you have to.

dinajen22 Right on, sir. Put Texas back under control of federal and constitutional law.

Thank you!

I don’t usually weigh in on this type thing, But in this case, TX went way too far. Give women their choice.

'After careful assessment of the facts and the law, the Justice Department has determined that Greg Abbott is bug nut crazy.'

I'm officially reporting govabbott for the many early terminated pregnancies in TX due to his actions & his administration's lies about the Covid vaccine. WheresMyMoney TexasSB8

Thank you TheJusticeDept

Go after Kavanagh!

Thank you.

That's good Garland I'm finally glad you're getting off your ass and actually doing something also this is unconstitutional and it's kind of a big one because it could lead to a civil war if you don't do anything about it

Many scenarios lead to termination: Molar Pregnancy diagnosed typically early 2nd trimester. Can lead to malignancy. Immunocompromised woman with birth control failure risk of dying. Women’s Health guided between woman and Doctor not a government entity.

“After careful review of my increasing bank accounts I have decide to sue Texas”… 🤦🏼‍♂️so glad this clown isn’t a Supreme Court justice…

Where Do These Lawsuit Money Go? They Sure Do Sue A Lot!😷 Can The People Sue For Bad COVID Vaccines?🙄🤦🏽‍♂️😷😷 Who Controls The Laws Control The Lawsuits?😷😷

Ya super “careful” what a joke!

“There! Everyone can shut up now! And stop nagging me about Trump! It ain’t happening! Now back to my nap…”

How long before ABC begins defending Texas?

Can’t accept the Supreme Court?

Thank you!

Chuck Rhoades would eat this guy's lunch

More Americans and Afghans came out of Afghanistan with no incident, and the Republican Senators must be disappointed because the way the Republican Senators have been tweeting and talking it’s like they wanted something bad to happen!

This dude kinda looks familiar. Who is he?

At last Sanity has prevailed.

BoycottTexas

Yea!!! 👏👏👏He is alive.

Okay, good. Let's see what happens next.

The Supreme Court did say they wanted a case to challenge the law in order to properly weigh in. Here it is. Am I wrong?

Hooray!

Good. Now give Trump and every member of his regime subpoenas.

Lol, like needing the continue murdering children because of poor life choices is a “constitutional right.” I thought the US government preferred burning them alive after they were born anyway. 💁‍♂️

Justice Department to sue over Texas' restrictive abortion lawBREAKING: The Biden admin. is filing a lawsuit to challenge Texas' near-total ban on abortions, which the Supreme Court declined to block after the law took effect last week. Congress could simply preempt it via legislation, but I guess Dems have no interest in that. Does anyone find it stunning that our devoutly Catholic president is not having his justice department filing law suits to protect the most innocent among us, the ones without a voice, the most innocent! Adding more justices to the court would only be a temporary fix. What needs to be done is getting Kavanaugh and other Trump appointees off of it and replacing them with liberal justices.
