Raised $1 million: Jordan Shanks-Markovina, also known as Friendlyjordies.The politician argues the videos incorrectly portray him as a “corrupt conman” who “committed perjury nine times”, among other imputations. Mr Shanks-Markovina will rely on the defences of truth, contextual truth and honest opinion in the case.
“The funds will cover the legal costs of defending the defamation action launched by Mr Barilaro against YouTube channel Friendlyjordies founder Jordan Shanks, and defending the interests of his producer Kristo Langker and his family following his controversial arrest,” the statement said. Police allege Mr Langker stalked and intimidated Mr Barilaro on two occasions – at Macquarie University on the evening of April 19, and in Sydney’s CBD on June 4. Vision of both interactions was broadcast on the Friendlyjordies channel.
In a statement on Thursday, Mr Shanks-Markovina thanked his supporters, noting more than 24,000 donations have been received.“We will never forget this generosity,” Mr Shanks-Markovina said. “We have received more than 24,000 individual donations – that’s more people [than] who first voted John Barilaro into Parliament. We know the public is on our side in this battle.
