Protestors have taken to the streets of downtown Minneapolis to celebrate after former police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty of all three charges brought against him over the death of George Floyd last year.

Sky News Washington Correspondent Annelise Nielson said it was a “hugely historic” day for the United States with the jury’s guilty verdict following almost a year of protests, riots and looting.

Mr Chauvin will be sentenced in eight weeks and while there is potential for an appeal, political commentary surrounding the trial – which was acknowledged by the judge – has led to speculation calls for a mistrial could be likely.

Firstly, I do not disagree with the verdict. My concern lies with prejudice (pre-justice). Many, including the US Pres & Vice Pres called for, then proclaimed 'justice' was done. I think emotion overran reality & they really wanted guilty verdict justice. (or riots)

Chauvin won't last five minutes in prison...

“Mostly peaceful” celebrations 🙄

Fortunately the US prison system functions well, isn't brutally violent, and will rehabilitate Chauvin for release back into the community. I hope he spends his time bettering himself and comes out improved as a person.

'Protestors have taken to the streets' Aren't they revellers now?
