A Northern Territory court has heard a high-ranking public servant facing a criminal charge over a recruitment process allegedly attempted to appoint a friend to a permanent role in her office. The court heard she allegedly intervened in recruitment for a role in her officeNT Children's Commissioner Colleen Gwynne was charged with abuse of office in July 2020.
The Darwin Local Court heard Ms Gwynne had provided a reference for an employee who applied for the position of Assistant Children's Commissioner in 2018 and had previously acted in the role. The court heard Ms Gwynne then sought advice from other high-ranking public servants about whether she was able to overrule the panel decision and appoint her long-time friend and colleague to the role."She asked for advice and those in a position to provide it gave it to her and now she's charged with a criminal offence."
The WA applicant did not apply but two internal applicants Ms Gwynne had previously provided references for, including her friend, did.
Now that is a well written and researched piece , without fear or favor and how it should be.
Well 10 years as commissioner is far too long in a Democracy. This type of dishonesty and meddling is very much likely to happen in such scenarios.
Could ABC film 730 report back in Melb again?
Wouldn’t be the first time people got appointed to permanent roles before someone else deserved it?
