Justice Breyer says advocates of big changes at the Supreme Court, including expanding the number of justices, should think “long and hard” about what they’re proposing.

, including expanding the number of justices, should think “long and hard” about what they’re proposing.

His talk, Breyer said, “seeks to make those whose initial instincts may favor important structural changes, such as forms of ‘Breyer, a Harvard law alumnus who also taught at the school, is the court’s oldest justice at 82. President Joe Biden’s election and Democrats’ paper-thin Senate majority have prompted talk that Breyer, appointed by Democratic President Bill Clinton in 1994, could soon retire, perhaps as early as the summer.

I don’t they are capable of thinking or we wouldn’t have all those children’s lives at risk and traumatized all for a vote.

Increasing the number of justices would lower the amount of power any one justice has, not the power of the court. Set it up like the Federal court with rotational assignment to cases so court can't be packed.

Fuck around and find out

Shut up, man

we can’t have a completely unbalanced scotus run by religious zealots. this isn’t the middle east. so something has to be done.

no the real problem lies into equal justice for all americans,no matter your race, sex,or religious agenda/.do u think that is the law in the present scotus?/. u must tell the truth/.

Heh. Heh. He said 'long.' Huh. Huh..Huh. He said 'hard.'

to many cook in the Kitchen will spoil the broth.

What if that happened with Reagan, GHWBush, GWBush or tRUMP when Senate Majority were GOP.

Why are these old hags still running the place

Ok. I’ve thought long and hard about it. Now expand it.

I may disagree with his politics - at least he is acting like an adult. We could use more of this type of leadership.

I was once naive enough to believe that the Supreme Court was non-partisan and would always stand up for the rights of Americans to have their vote counted fairly. Then came Bush v Gore.

Don’t expand the court until the alphabet soup gets (1) checked in a dictionary “culture” should not serve or drive politics. (2) filtered above the ears of kids below biological reproductive age; as not a single letter of LGBTQ applies to them or mating or hormonal effects.

That ship sailed, but it might help restore trust

I have thought long and hard and I say pack that court !

Okay. I thought long and hard. Time to re-balance Scotus

Expand the court.

Hmmm sounds like he is taking talking points from McConnell. My view any warning they give means they are scared and change WOULD be good.

Yes yes. Let’s think. And then think some more. And then let’s reason. And debate. Then, let’s reflect. Maybe take a break. Let those ideas ruminate. Then, oops, we’re in an election year. Can’t do anything rash now. Hold off until...oh, now we have divided government. 😑

I'm with him on this. However, if the constitutional interests of the majority are not being served by the present composition of the Supreme Court, then radical measures are necessary. That's what the court was supposed to do.

I don’t think long and hard is the phrase he should use but hey what do I know...Republicans destroyed trust in the court when they pushed through 3 fucking 3 justices ffs

Allowing the court to become dominated by justices nominated by minority presidents is also not great for public trust.

Hmmm 🤔 how about representation

Justices bought and paid for who vote strictly along party lines isn't working either.

They act like Jr league politicians. If they didn’t, I could take Breyer more seriously here.

Sounds like a threat.

We should reduce the number by 3, kicking the last three to the curb.

We should think long and hard about term and age limits for the Supreme Court too.

Democrats wary of appearing to push Justice Breyer out despite their small window to replace himSenior Democrats are treading carefully around Justice Stephen Breyer these days, worried that a progressive push to get him to retire could either anger him or come off as overtly political -- in either case potentially dashing their hopes of getting a young new liberal on the Supreme Court in his place. His identity is tied to his career. So he probably won't ever leave. It's time to expand the Supreme Court besides letting the older liberal justices retire so Biden can replace those seats...The Republicans are at war with the dems and drastic changes are needed... 1/8 Solar & Wind are 0 emissions?
