Amid the fallout over Georgia's new sweeping elections law, Texas Democrats and activists are strategizing how to get some of the state's biggest employers to apply political pressure on lawmakers weighing restrictive voting bills in the Lone Star State.

When pressed by ABC News about whether the legislation could actually be prevented from becoming law given the state's Republican-controlled legislature, Castro reiterated the need for Texans and businesses to apply pressure on lawmakers ahead of the House bill being up for a full vote. The bill could be up for a committee vote as early as this week before advancing to the floor.

"If you believe that your vote is your voice, then we want you to have the moral courage to stand up with us. Use your voice -- not only are we asking for you to make statements but we need you to move beyond talking the talk, to walking in the walk," said the Rev. Frederick Douglass Haynes.Texas Governor Greg Abbott talks during a press conference in Weslaco, Texas, April 1, 2021.

By not showing up at the opening game, the governor said he is"sending a message to these Texas-based companies that have made the very same mistake with regard to Texas laws."

How dare Texas think they can uphold election integrity by insisting people ask for a ballot! Or even allowing poll watchers access within polling places? Crazy! They should have learned from the City of Detroit, and locked poll watchers in a separate room, with windows covered

Big biz, big government, big tech... the perfect storm for big losses to democracy

Great, another news organization that hasn't read the actual law

You have to have an id for everything else in this country you need to have an ID to vote! MOST Americans believe this! This is getting so old🙄

'restrictive' ? fact check?

People need to boycott!

Avoid not transparency in the elections process, is a responsibility for Democrats & Republicans until today skeptical about the elections outcome.

applying pressure = bullying

Well, threatening the employment and livelihood of the average citizen by staging corporate departures seems like a good plan. Nothing like good, old fashioned intimidation when you're not getting what you think you're entitled to.

COVID-19=Bioweapon

It’s not going to work

Please do an article that explains how these state voting laws are restrictive. For instance if the election is three months away how am I restricted from voting on Election Day?

It’s pretty sad that we’ve gotten to the point that we need big business to stand up for democracy against the MAGA cult.

As in Georgia, Texas Democrats look to mobilize businesses against voting restrictionsWith new voting restrictions making their way through the Texas Legislature, Democrats in the state are seeking to replicate the pressure campaign waged by activists and businesses in Georgia to stop the measures from becoming law. I'm pretty sure where they will park the police to enforce this. Somehow this has to be breaking some law. On another note the filibuster must go so we can pass the Voting Rights Act. Lol it’s not rocket science to show up and vote somewhere with an ID. It’s no different than showing up to the DMV to renew your ID. didn't they use dominion voting systems? that will make it easier for iran and china to cast their votes like they did in GA, PA, MI, etc.
