Former White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney says the acquittal of former President Donald Trump is a “foregone conclusion” due to the nature of the “narrow indictment” of incitement to riot put forward by House Democrats. “I was expecting a much more serious trial," he said.
“The dye for that was set when the House of Representatives only sought to charge Donald Trump with incitement to riot which means that only things up to the riot will be relevant. “There’ll be a vote late this week or later this weekend and Donald Trump will be acquitted a second time.” Mr Mulvaney said a conviction was “not possible” under the charge put forward by the Democrats which will limit the evidence to things said during and in anticipation of the rally before the riots.
