Judge Amy Coney Barrett acquitted herself very well at her confirmation hearings, which means, quite often, she refused to answer questions.
In the sweep of American history, public hearings featuring the testimony of Supreme Court nominees are a relatively recent innovation, taking hold in the mid-20th century. Subsequent nominees and administrations took the same attitude to the Bork experience as the French philosopher Voltaire when he was invited to an orgy for the second time. He declined on grounds that once is an experiment, twice would be perverse.
Barrett relentlessly hewed to the Ginsburg rule, commenting on her own past writings, decisions and general legal philosophy, but refusing to get drawn out on much anything else, from campaign finance to climate change to President Donald Trump’s outrageous statements. This is much too far-reaching a standard. It’s one thing to commit to vote a certain way in a given case, which we shouldn’t want any judge to do; it’s another to conceal basic views on the law — for instance, wasOn top of this, the Ginsburg rule renders what a nominee will talk about completely arbitrary. We know a fair amount about how Barrett views gun rights because she wrote a dissent in a notable gun case and couldn’t avoid discussing it.
Agreed...the Judiciary Committee should have intelligent Congressional leaders who are interested in actual analysis vs. pontificating, hating, campaigning, vile, made up, slanderous comments with no care for reality, the American people and nomination process...sad...

Joe Biden ran this judiciary committee hearing in 1993 and had no issue with Ginsburg doing the exact same thing.
We need to find different way to interrogate the nominees. No matter which side puts them up. They will not answer basic questions. Yes lady justice is blind. But she’s not dumb.

People asked her to essentially decide cases at her confirmation. That would not be proper and therefore she did not do it. She did however explain exactly how her thought process works that she would use to decide cases. That is proper. That’s what was done.
Allow me to quickly translate: ACB refuses to address bullshit disguised as “questions”. There is no question that her intellect is sorely needed in this country. Nice try though.
