Rep. John Lewis to lie in state next week at the US Capitol

will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol next week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced Thursday.at the age of 80 after a monthslong battle with cancer.

Lewis will lie in state outdoors for the public visitation on the East Front Steps of the Capitol because of COVID-19 precautions. The Capitol is still closed to public tours because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and lawmakers have been asked to follow social distancing protocols inside the building.

Before coming to Washington, two days of observances will be held in Alabama. Lewis will lie in repose at Troy University, in Troy, Alabama, and at Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church in Selma, Alabama.

Fed Ex is handling the arrangements as Lewis travels the country over the next year calling it the greatest homecoming celebration ever! Lewis will be coming to a city near you!

He'll be ripe by then.

I would like to see a statue of him, and hopefully it doesn’t get destroyed.
