I don’t understand what the problem is. Why is it so difficult for some people to wear a face mask? It is about protecting other people as well as yourself. Maybe that is it, people have become self obsessed, selfish or just plain narcissistic.

Here in Hong Kong virtually every shop and cafe requires and enforces it. Including M&S. So what's the matter with the fucking English?
Sell masks outside the shop 50p or 1 pound dispenser. If they can't afford it then why would you want them in your shop.

It doesn’t need enforcing in shops. A shop is a premises where you are invited to enter and purchase items. No mask No entry, not a police matter, unless violence etc is presented to staff. Seems to be making a bigger issue of this than needs be.

WHY could be fun v
expecting business owners to refuse entry to customers or enforce the law is harsh. They could alienate potential customers and will be desperate for business after having been closed for weeks during lockdown. They may not be able to staff the entrance and could face abuse.

In Portugal, you can't enter a shop without a mask and without washing one's hands with alcohol. I take that's the system used in most countries where wearing a mask is mandatory.

They should be made mandatory and workers of the shops or security guards of big chain retailers should not let anyone in without wearing a mask.

Police can only act if asked to do so by property owner, they have no powers of enforcement on private property. Be interesting to know how many fines issued in Scotland. Especially as Lidl have declared they do not require shoppers to wear masks there.

I have no idea how it is that this only appears an issue in England. The rest of the UK have had their politicians asked 'but how will it be enforced?' and it hasn't resulted in such a demonstration of thickness.

Why? Fine businesses who don’t enforce it; shut them down if they continue to flout health guidelines. Businesses should refuse service to anyone not wearing a mask.
