Change is needed after allegations of sexual harassment against former High Court judge Dyson Heydon, the president of the Law Council of Australia says.

Change is needed after allegations of sexual harassment against a former High Court judge, the president of the Law Council of Australia has said.

Sex Discrimination Commissioner Kate Jenkins said allegations of sexual harassment were not confined to the legal sector. While she would not comment on the specifics of Mr Heydon's case, Ms Jenkins said media reports of sexual harassment were a reminder to employers they had a responsibility to protect workers.

High Court Chief Justice Susan Kiefel said the findings were of "extreme concern" and that the women's accounts "have been believed". Ms Wright welcomed the High Court's decision to accept all six recommendations made by the independent investigation, which includes a better process for lodging complaints.

"I think that's an exemplary approach for any employer, confronting a situation like this where serious sexual harassment is alleged," Mr Bornsteinn said.Law Society of Australia president Pauline Wright says sexual harassment is one of the main reasons women leave the legal profession.

There should also be change in the private boys schools these men attended. Those schools frequently cultivate and support (through bullying) sexist behaviour that ends up as sexual harassment.

Such as enforcing it, maybe? Taking claims seriously. To those who do it - stop being such sleazy gropey creeps...

Why doesn't Bill Shorten tell the public the real reason he wants Dyson Heydon stripped of his honours? Payback for the grilling Shorten received from the Judge during the Union enquiry. The whole truth Bill.

how about charges being laid for indecent assault?

Wrong. Investigation finished. Allegations substantiated. Stop lying Just b/c Heydon is a bestie of the corrupt Liberal Party, resist the urge to diminish the lived experience of many, many women at the hands of this disgusting misogynist. SexualAssault UnsafeWorkplace

Workplace changes? Does he get held to account because the investigation decided 'to believe' the women you made the complaints?

He looked such a nice man too.

Preferably an independent arbitrator Not self-regulation Freshfields lawyer did not feel ‘brave enough’ to report groping via financialtimes Freshfields partners to vote on introducing bad behaviour fines via financialtimes

Given the list for sexual harassment from AHRC includes staring or leering, suggestive comments or jokes, unwanted invitations to go out on dates -that make a person feel ‘offended, humiliated and / or intimidated’ we don’t really know what he has been accused of.

His colleagues let peadophiles walk free, so why would they be even slightly concerned by sexual harassment?

Hey ABC how did the Pell case turn out for you ? And now you try the same crap on him you waste of space people never learn defundtheABC

There are already workplace laws and regulations against sexual harassment In place, most abide and enforce them. What else can be done to stop individuals that choose to ignore them? 🤔

A dodgy touchy feely old judge.

Lots of words but still no detail on what he is alleged to have done. Great reporting not.

We need to recognise that communities are riddled with misogyny and sexism and that some men continue to offend into their dotage.

Typical legal type, ironically believes that the law does not apply to them auspol

As a young lawyer in the 90’s I literally could not count the number of times I was sexually harassed, propositioned, demeaned and hushed by my male counterparts. JustSaying

He should have stuck to mulling up in the dunnies between cases.

Silly old man. Thought he was hot and the young girlies would dig him.

Why do we keep getting Liberal Party Prime Ministers that regularly come down on the same side as sexual predators and paedophiles? Is it just a coincidence? auspol
