Sydney magistrate Graeme Curran has been released from custody after an appeal court quashed two of his seven convictions and reduced his sentence for indecently assaulting a teenage boy in the 1980s.
Curran was re-sentenced to a maximum term of 16 months' imprisonment with a non-parole period of nine months. His new non-parole period expired on May 22 and the total term will expire on December 22. Justices John Basten, Robert Allan Hulme and Peter Hamill will publish reasons for their decision at a later date.
"To anyone considering coming forward to tell their story, I can only say one thing: just do it. The benefits far outweigh the burdens."
