Suaram says ex-DJ Teoh’s arrest an abuse of law

Suaram has condemned the arrest and remand of former DJ Patrick Teoh for allegedly insulting the Johor Crown Prince and say the Communication and Multimedia Act is being abused by police to hold him. – Facebook pic, May 10, 2020.

A SECTION in the Communication and Multimedia Act was not designed to criminalise online commentary, said Suara Rakyat Malaysia. Its executive director Sevan Doraisamy said Section 223 of the CMA also stated that it is not a criminal offence for anyone to post offensive remarks online, so long as it does not threaten the safety of another person.
